Since starting Design Different started earlier this year, both the business, and myself, have been growing and evolving.Part of that evolution has included focusing more in areas originally thought to be ancillary, such as low cost webhosting and “Dot Org” consulting. Another part of that evolution has been to shy away from partisan politics (where I got my start) and to recharge my batteries while working on other worthwhile, less stressful, projects.A really big part of the evolution however, is culminating in uprooting from Omaha to head to the East Coast. As such, this is the final post at Design Different Omaha, but the first post of a brand new life for me, and for DD.I will continue to work with the partners I developed in Omaha, and there will be a few people in Omaha still doing limited work under the Design Different banner for the time to come. The great thing about the internet is that I can continue to serve the majority of the clients here in Nebraska that have signed up to work with us. For these clients, and you know who you are, I appreciate the support that has been so crucial to our success.Furthermore, I am excited to start a life in a new city, and region. I am excited to recruit new partners and to expand Design Different into a truly full-service consulting firm as it is intended to eventually become. But as we grow and change, the core priciples will remain the same. Only work for candidates and companies that really deserve it. Only charge what is absolutely necessary. No hidden fees or costs, no unneeded bells or whistles. Designs that are always fresh, and, of course, Different. In a little while, when I’ve gotten to know my new surroundings, Design Different will relaunch under a new website. Feel free to visit it, and to get updates as to when things are finished, simply sign up for our email list.

Our DD site is having some compatibility issues right now w/ older versions of Internet Explorer. For optimal viewing, try Firefox, Safari, Camino, or another Mozilla-based web browser. If you are on a windows computer, I highly encourage you to download and use Mozilla Firefox to view the web. This is not just so you can see the DD site w/out problems, but because Firefox is a much safer, better, secure, and more useful web browser.

There’s also a hanging java-script box under the word “home” above, that we’re going to be fixing soon. Just an FYI.

Take a look for yourself.

It follows the simple rule of Show, don’t Tell. And, frankly, it makes C-Clamp websites (like 99% of the websites on the internet, including this one) look amateur.

As we here @ DD roll out our 2.0 version of this website (with a better domain name and separate portals for businesses, not-for-profits, campaigns, and individuals) look for something more like the website linked above.

Something tells me we’re going to get some stink over the name…

So let me just say now, yes yes, we know. The grammatically correct way to say to say our name would have been “Design Differently.”

Trust us, we love grammar over here at DD. You’ll notice that we try very hard to never make freshman mistakes with our pronouns (like saying “John, Allison, and Me“) or even sophomoric mistakes like ending sentences with prepositions.

John comes from a journalism background, so sometimes we have trouble with him writing Add-Copy in AP style (it’s the style newspapers are written in). But besides this problem, which leads to a lot of missing commas, we try to keep strict grammar around this joint.

But that’s the point. By sticking to our rules strictly, we are in a better position to emphasize things when we decide to break the rules.

And Design Different is nothing if not a firm that breaks all The Rules…

So far we’re breaking the rules about what a marketing firm is supposed to be… We’re breaking the rules in what we’re supposed to do, how we’re supposed to do it, and how much we’re supposed to charge for our services. We’re even breaking the rules in what type of companies we’re supposed to be working for… willfully choosing to skip out on lucrative corporate contracts, and actively seeking out low-dollar alternative contracts with companies we can be proud to do work for.

I guess that’s why we went with the name Design Different. We want you to know from the start that we’re breaking the rules.

But, for the record, we (heart) grammar too.

-Mike, writing on behalf of the whole DD Team.

No, it’s not Nike or Apple computers (not this year at least). And no, despite all our emails, John Edwards still hasn’t hired us for his Presidential Campaign. But the UNO Alpha Beta Psi fraternity needed a new website, and we were glad to help them out. Check out www.unobap.com to see what Matt has pulled together.

Thanks UNO-BAP… you officially win the ‘first customer ever’ award. Next up: finish our own website!
